OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
To prepare and implement a comprehensive strategy for dealing with homelessness prevention as part of the overall Homelessness Strategy for Ashfield prepared by the Homelessness Section.
To work with and to advise clients who are likely to become homeless and who are threatened with homelessness in order to prevent homelessness occurring.
To work with private sector landlords, the voluntary sector and statutory agencies to develop a strategic preventative approach across the local authority area.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.To assist in the preparation of and implementation of Ashfield's Homelessness Strategy.
2.To develop, in partnership with other agencies a long-term strategy aimed at preventing homelessness and to implement this along with the voluntary sector and partner agencies.
3.To build up a profile of situations where early intervention can be taken and recommend responses. This would include work with partner agencies and the identification of new housing options where appropriate.
4.To ensure that the prevention of homelessness is accepted as a priority within the strategy section as a whole.
5.To develop practical responses to prevent homelessness in the Ashfield District, in particular dealing with the main identified causes of homelessness and repeat homelessness, to think laterally and adopt innovative approaches to prevent homelessness.
6.To negotiate with clients, landlords and support agencies to assist re-entry for the client.
7.To deal with difficult clients and explain complex legal procedures
8.To take early action to contact family and friends, private or housing association landlords, mortgage companies, advice agencies where a Notice to Quit or Notice of Seeking Possession has been served.
9.To advise on the legality of a notice and any defence to possession proceedings. To identify if support services of any type are needed to maintain a tenancy and work to ensure these are put in place, e.g. mediation, resettlement, tenancy support, debt counselling with appropriate agencies.
10.To improve access to the private sector for statutory and non-statutory homeless people.

13.To prepare briefing notes, Cabinet Member reports and to assist in the compilation of management information and statistics to assist in performance indicators and performance management.
14.Any other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade.
Candidates must have a full clean driving licence and be able to work on call 1 in 4 weeks.
