You’ll have appointments in your diary, and you’ll call customers to make even more, so the work’s going to test your time management skills and ability to engage with all sorts of people. Supported by a manager who’ll set you objectives and help you reach them, you’ll be part of a team that’s looking to you for new business. It has its pressures, but if you don’t mind targets, and get a real buzz from helping customers in ways they hadn’t expected, the rewards are great. As well as a good basic education (5 GCSEs minimum including English and maths), you’ll need a tenacious and focussed mentality and, ideally, a background in customer service, sales, finance or insurance.
