Chesterfield is a historic market town and local government district in Derbyshire located on the edge of the Peak District. Lying north of Derby, the town has a population of approximately 70,000.

In recent years, the economy in and around Chesterfield has experienced major change, moving the employment base away from the primary and secondary sectors and towards the service sector including logistics. Current developments within the town include the new Junction 29A that will provide increased access to the town from the M1 motorway and the relocation and rebuild of the Chesterfield Football Club stadium.

About the College

In 2007/08 the College enrolled 11,800 learners of whom 3,989 were full time and the majority of these learners were 16-18 years old. In addition 387 learners were on higher education programmes funded by HEFCE and a further 400 trainees were on Work Based Learning apprenticeships.

College serves a large catchment area in Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire and beyond - west into the Derbyshire Dales, east into Bolsover and south into Amber Valley and the outskirts of Derby. It is also one of the largest employers in Chesterfield and currently employs 539 permanent staff of whom 254 are teaching staff.

Restructuring of the College's senior management has recently been approved by the Corporation. The Executive team is made up of the Principal and three Deputy Principals - Learning and Standards, Planning Funding and Innovation, Corporate Services. With the Principal these postholders determine and drive the overall strategic direction and leadership of the College. Working with the Executive is a Senior Leadership including Directors for Finance, Human Resources, Curriculum, Business Enterprise and Estates.

Social and Personal Care

The broad curriculum delivered by the College includes art and design, hair, beauty, information technology, construction crafts, engineering, uniformed services, science and humanities, childcare and many more. In fact the College delivers provision in all 15 Sector Subject Areas.
